GCUC took New York City by storm last week. GCUC would not be possible with out the support of the community as well as our sponsors. One of GCUC top sponsors, essensys, published this shortly after the conference and we couldnt help but share it…. Just like that, months of planning have paid off and GCUC USA has come and gone for this year. We could not have been happier with how this year's event turned out and we are so thankful for everyone that came out. Coworking (and GCUC) would not be what it is without such an amazing and supportive community. We are the future of work and this is the human revolution. Here are a few words from the Allwork Crew, to… Read More »
Look, I get it. You’re surrounded by several dozen coworkers and you can see and hear them all because you’re in an open office space . That last thing you want to do is yap away on your phone for everyone else to hear. This wasn’t supposed to happen if everyone was talking like in a newsroom or trading floor…or even a busy restaurant, where your conversations would be private, despite the lack of any walls, because all the ambient… Read More »
I’ve personally watched coworking grow from a few spaces (less than 100) to what I’m guessing is about 15,000 spaces around the world. There is coworking in every corner from Mongolia to Vietnam to Ecuador. Coworking is not just an open space for working; Coworking is a movement. Its about working in a community and it’s on fire. Try to find a business center that doesn’t identify as Coworking – in fact Regus claims they invented it (they did not).… Read More »
Community What’s the difference between running an office rental facility and growing a truly impactful collaborative community everyone wants to be a part of? It all comes back to your higher purpose. These days, there’s no shortage of folks looking to make a few bucks renting desks in pretty-looking environments. In this session, I’m going to show you how to stand out from the crowd by going after something fundamentally different, more fulfilling, more compelling, than renting the prettiest workspace… Read More »
In 2011, there were 1,130 coworking spaces with 43,000 members. Now there are an estimated 3,800 spaces around the world, with more than a million people coworking. In that time, coworking has gone from a small movement to a global industry. We spoke with Liz Elam, executive producer of the Global Coworking Unconference Conference (GCUC) and founder of Link Coworking in Austin, Texas, about the current state of coworking, where the industry is headed, and the changing nature of work.… Read More »
Chelsea Market/High Line Experience (75 9th Avenue): The High Line is one of the coolest places in the city–hands down. In case you haven’t heard, the High Line is an abandoned elevated freight train line which has been converted into an elevated park. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District up to 34th Street between 10th and 11th Avenue. The first phase of the High Line opened in the summer of 2009 and has become an instant hit… Read More »
The Global Coworking Unconference Conference (GCUC – pronounced juicy) is known for being little, well...off-beat, unique and different. We don’t follow the rules and we don’t pay attention to what everyone else is doing. We march to the beat of our own drummer. We do our own thing and it seems to resonate and attract a very diverse and passionate following. We have been talking about creating an industry awards program for years and this year is the year… Read More »
Want to know more about GCUC? Check out this article from our friends at The Farm... Holding an event in the most populous city in America is expensive. When we say expensive we mean really, really, really expensive. Our cost went up almost 40% year over year just for the venue. We also wanted to be in the heart of the city and that also drives up cost. We did look hard at Industry in Brooklyn and BellWorks in New Jersey but we really didn’t feel like the neighborhoods could support our unique needs. After battling… Read More »
