The second annual GCUC UK is upon us.
Workspace operators from the UK and beyond will gather in London 23-24 September to connect, learn, network, meet with industry experts, share insights and best practices, eat, drink and make merry.
In advance of the coworking conference, I connected with producer Tim Devitt about the buzz leading up to the event, the collaborative culture of the workspace sector, and the hot topics of conversation this year. Here are the highpoints of our conversation.
Cat Johnson: Hi Tim. GCUC UK is just around the corner. What are you personally looking forward to at this year’s event? Any panels, presenters or events you’re particularly keen on?
Tim Devitt: I’m really looking forward to the panel on what the coworking sector can learn from the hospitality sector, including insights from Sarah Duignan from STR Global. I’m also curious to see what topics for discussion come up from the delegates on the unconference day.
We’ve introduced Ask the Expert sessions this year where delegates can have quality one-to-one sessions with experts to solve their coworking challenges. It will be great to see how that works for both the experts and delegates.
What’s the buzz from attendees and presenters?
There is a real sense of excitement from both attendees and speakers alike. I think this is due to both the content of the agenda and the fact that GCUC engenders a sense of fun compared to the traditional conference format.
Being new to the sector, I have also been struck by how friendly competitors are within the sector and how people are happy to challenge and discuss issues of the day together.
What about the venue? What can attendees expect at ETC?
In line with evidence suggesting increased biophilic design in office space has a positive effect on the working environment, we have tried to apply this to the venue.
The result is that the space will hopefully feel more relaxing than a normal conference.
Are there any GCUC UK sneak peeks you can share with us before the conference?
We have just announced the short list for the inaugural GCUC London Coworking Awards. We had a high quality of nominations. Judges Antony Slumbers, Christine Andrews and Ben Munn had their work cut out to select a short list, let alone the eventual winners. I’m looking forward to announcing the winners on Monday evening.
