Trends in the workplace are rapidly changing. Over the course of only a few years the cubical height have shrunk to zero. Layouts in the office have changed from closed and static to open and collaborative. Furniture continue to evolve as well as the technology within them. We are not far away from connected furniture that have APIs people can hack. Read the full article on medium.com Read More »
By Sarah Snyder Three weeks after the Global Coworking Unconference Conference (GCUC) has left Kansas City, I am reflecting on the superb experience we had and connections we made. Think Big Coworking and Think Big Partners could not be more excited with the decision GCUC made to come to Kansas City this year and we hope that our beloved city proved to be more than expected (which I think it did.) This being my third year attending, GCUC continues to… Read More »
It’s no secret we had a blast at GCUC in Kansas City. We wanted to share some of the exciting things we packed into our carry ons to bring home. As always, our number one takeaway was: We’re all in this together. The coworking community is still so young and everyone is very eager to office advice, share successes and failures, and help each other continue to get the word out about what we’re all working to build. None of… Read More »
For 3 days, coworking geeks from around the globe gathered in Kansas City for this year’s Global Coworking Unconference Conference. During our time together we shared, listened, learned, argued and laughed. As always when coworking friends convene, it felt wonderful to reconnect with the global movement. Coworking is not just this thing that we do in Seattle – it’s a movement of independent workers from around the world all looking to do better together. Now back home in Seattle, I… Read More »
David Singer tells me a GCUC connection story I just love. Chin resting on folded hands like a little kid, I ask him to tell it again and again, and he always obliges. In a nutshell, David was researching Coworking and came across GCUC. He was checking out the speakers and recognized a long lost friend from high school: Benjamin Dyett of GRIND. Thanks to reconnecting through GCUC, David is now an investor and key part of GRIND’s growing business.… Read More »
GCUC 2014 is only a few short weeks away. It’s not time to pack your bag yet, but it is time to start strategizing about how to get the most out of your GCUC networking. Pre-Conference Prep: Define your conference objectives by answering three questions in writing: 1. What are my top three objectives for the conference? 2. What do I want to learn from the conference? 3. What relationships do I want to build at the conference?… Read More »

A big thanks to everyone who participated in the GCUC T-shirt Contest. We can't wait to see you in KC! Read More »
Partitions, square footage costs, accessibility, fixtures, path of egress...Welcome to the morass that is architecture and construction. If you don't have a serious understanding or experience with being in the trenches of building out a space, be prepared to be in a world of hurt. "Isn't coworking all about community?" you ask. You got it, but...that physical space you want to call an office will need to be built, renovated, and/or occupied. Let no one fool you into thinking that… Read More »
Coffee and Wifi. When people talk about what they need/want/expect from coworking the two things that come up first are coffee and Wifi. While both are awesome, one is more critical to the success of a space (no, we don’t mean coffee). And we’re not just talking good internet. Coworking spaces need to offer seamless, easy, consistent technology for their members and managers. It’s about a technology infrastructure that is flexible, smart and sustainable. Easy, right? “Technology makes it possible… Read More »
A couple of years ago Regus began telling the story of how they had actually launched coworking through their worldwide proliferation of executive suite options. The coworking community rose up and loudly rejected this version of history. In the mainstream media this played out like a clash of younger and older generations but it runs deeper than that. Both Regus and coworking spaces rent desks by the day or month. Both can offer the same equipment, facilities, and amenities, but… Read More »
