We hope you have heard by now (and got a ticket) that GCUC is headed to Denver this April. If you know anything about Denver this time of year, you know we are in store for some awesome weather and scenery. We highly encourage you to come in a day early or stay through the weekend to check out the local flare. Colorado is a great place to bring a family… just saying, you could make a vacation of it!
If you are in need of inspiration take a look at the 15 things our crew has found for you to do in the area.
- Denver B-cycle – Explore Denver in a fun and new way. Denver B-Cycle offers automatic bikes that will whisk you around this gorgeous city.
- Lookout Mountain – Experience nature and history in a breathtaking way. Lookout Mountain offers amazing views and while on the trek learn about Denver’s rich history.
- 16th Street Mall Area – If you enjoy people watching this place is for you. With endless places to eat and shop, there is never a dull moment.
- Rock Bottom Brewery – “you may not have personal trainers, personal shoppers or a personal chef, but at Rock Bottom everyone has a personal Brewer. Our Brewers craft fresh beer inspired by their very own experiences and they take the term craft beer seriously. It’s part art, part science, and part unbridled obsession that makes them devote their lives to beer making. Their self-imposed standards of quality are over the mood, and we love them for that.”
- Take a Tour of Stranahan’s Single Malt Whiskey – “The Stranahan’s Distillery is whiskey lover’s promised land.”
- Check Little Man Ice Cream – Take a trip back to the past at Little Man Ice Cream. Enjoy amazing “instagram worthy” ice cream that gives back to an amazing cause.
- The Denver Art Museum – Tickets are $13 for Non-Residents and $10 for Residents. Open everyday from 10 am till 5 pm!
- Indulge Your Inner Foodie at The Source – “Imagine San Francisco’s Ferry Building, and put an organic-centric Colorado spin on it. Voilà, you have The Source—a 26,000-square-foot, 19th-century warehouse on Brighton Boulevard which was converted to a brand-new marketplace in 2013. The Source features a handful of local brewers, bakers, butchers, specialty grocers and craftsmen all under one roof, and is well on its way to becoming the city’s hottest destination for foodies.”
- Larimer Square – “Enjoy a walk in one of Denver’s most historic areas, Larimer Square. Its history extends back to the 19th century when Colorado was all about gold and the famous gold strikes that put this beautiful State firmly on the map! The square was once home to a lot of ‘firsts’; first bank, first dry goods store, first bookstore, first theater, and also the site of the city’s first post office! Some of the old buildings remain but the new ones are just as nice, and home to some great restaurants and shops selling unusual and unique gifts. It’s worth taking the family to see the stores’ decorations too.”
- Go to a game at Coors Field – Home of the famous Colorado Rockies, go experience America’s greatest pastime in the mile-high city.
- Denver Climbing Company -“Our courses and adventures are available for all levels. All ages are welcome and all equipment is included. All of our guides have years of personal experience, training through the American Mountain Guide Association, and a certification in wilderness medicine.”
- Linger Eatuary – “The hip and usually-packed Denver restaurant Linger is as open as a fresh grave about the building’s history as it used to be a famed mortuary. The site is the former base of the Olinger family’s funeral empire, which at one point was responsible for organizing half of Denver’s funerals, even once housing the body of Buffalo Bill Cody for six months in 1917 while Wyoming and Colorado argued over who would provide his final resting place (Colorado won).”
- The Capital Grill – If you are in the mood for fine dining then this is the place for you!
- Milk Dance Club – The top rated dance club in Denver. If you’re trying to have a night on the town this is the place to go! 21+
- The Arvada Tavern – “An old-fashioned phone booth transports patrons of this longtime neighborhood haunt — dating back to 1933 — to the upstairs Bernard Ballroom, where free live music happens Fridays and Saturdays. Back downstairs, Tuesday nights are tiki themed and every evening brings great cocktails and small plates. Try the same owners’ other Denver bars: Union Lodge No. 1 and Tatarian.”
