Edition #6: Jessica Knapp

Community of Cultivators is a new blog series to introduce you to coworking game changers and connectors. Each month, we’ll release new interviews that we hope inform and inspire you.

Just over from Australia, this next interview is coming at you from New Zealand. Jessica Knapp, Founder of Bayhive and sales manager at Office R&D gave us a peek into her world. Check out what she had to say below.

What in your life are you most proud of cultivating or creating? Why?

My friendships. Why? I don’t think the love between friends gets the airtime that it deserves. I derive so much safety and comfort from my friendships; along with much laughter, shared experience, empathy, travel, shared problems and just having people who show up. I’m so proud of my friendships.

Where do you personally feel the most sense of community?

When I’m at home in New Zealand, or when I’m with my Coworking People (and that could be anywhere in the world!!)

What podcast would you recommend to others and why?

Just One?! OK…I’ll compromise and pick two. 1. Armchair Expert because Dax Shepard is amazing and charming and smart. He has great guests on the show and the topic of conversation is always really varied. 2. Suze Orman’s Women in Money Podcast – because Suze is no-nonsense when it comes to money and she’s a great teacher. I believe we don’t learn enough money and personal finance when we’re young, so I’m on a quest at the moment to understand money better. Suze has helped enormously.

What is one piece of advice you give everyone that works with and/or for you?

Listen. Listen to your team, listen to your customer. Oh, and be nice.

If you had $500 to spend- what would you buy?

A plane ticket.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming an entrepreneur?

Not everything is going to go according to plan. Know what you want, but don’t be so rigid that you can’t re-calibrate if needed.

What is the best habit you ever started? What habit do you want to start but haven’t yet?

Best habit I ever started was taking a 40 min (no screen) walk outside every single day – rain, hail or shine. A habit I haven’t started: Meditation – I want to be more consistent and not just sporadic.

If you had to put a quote on your gravestone what would it be?

 “Comparison is the thief of joy” – Roosevelt
