Community of Cultivators

Here at GCUC we are immensely fortunate to cross paths and work with so many amazing people. Through our work, we’ve cultivated a global community of people we think you should know about.

Community of Cultivators is a new blog series to introduce you to coworking game changers and connectors. Each month, we’ll release new interviews that we hope inform and inspire you.

This time we interviewed Jamie Miller, CEO of Union Cowork. Aside from being in coworking Jamie has his hands in a bunch of pots.We first met Jamie back in 2015 in LA and have been friends ever sense. Check out his answers below.

Name: Jamie Miller
Company and title: CEO of Union Cowork

What in your life are you most proud of cultivating or creating? Why?

My son – he has re-taught me the importance of paying attention to the right things. He holds me accountable to being a better, more thoughtful human. (He calls me out when I’m an asshole). I’m proud that I have the capacity to love him, learn from him and apply the lessons I’ve lived through to help him be more open and confident to the world.

Where do you personally feel the most sense of community?

The coffee shop, the elementary school, the coworking spaces in my neighborhood. It’s like hiring the contractor who lives on your street – there is another level of trust and engagement when you share space and cultural/social networks in real time day to day physical space.

What podcast would you recommend to others and why?

“How I Built This with Guy Raz” – It is intimate and explores the startup process in a way that supports self-reflection. It is fun to identify traits with others who have accomplished their goals. Serendipitous breakthroughs come from hard work, persistence and soul-focus – a common thread that picks me up when I am sensing vulnerability or criticism.

What is one piece of advice you give everyone that works with and/or for you?

Do what you want, just do it with self-respect and kindness to others.

If you had $500 to spend- what would you buy?

A one night stay at a shmancy boutique hotel with my son – he loves the “hotel life”.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming an entrepreneur?

Do it.

What is the best habit you ever started? What habit do you want to start but haven’t yet?

I started doing squats and lifting weights 9 months ago. I love my legs and butt and I eat like a monster but stay the same weight. Awesome. The habit I want to start but haven’t yet is opening up to potential romantic partnerships. Its been a while.

If you had to put a quote on your gravestone what would it be?

Fuck Yeah.

That wraps up this edition community of cultivators. Come back next tuesday for more.
